Position title: Prep Cook

Job description: We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Prep Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and a strong understanding of kitchen operations. As a Prep Cook, you will be responsible for cutting, chopping, cooking and measuring a variety of ingredients for our many sausages, skewers, broths, curries, and other prepared items. This is also a great introduction to meat cutting as you will also be tasked with some cutting, grinding and mixing of meats, as well as linking and smoking sausages.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Receiving deliveries of meats and other foods
  • Measuring and scaling spices, vegetables, meats and other ingredients for artisan sausages according to recipes
  • Grinding, mixing, stuffing, linking and smoking of sausages
  • Curing and smoking bacons, hams and other meats
  • Deboning and cutting pork, beef, chicken and lamb
  • Preparing, measuring and cooking ingredients for prepared items such as curries, broths, meat pies and more, according to recipes
  • Communicate with customers on product knowledge such as ingredients, as well as cooking instructions
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen area
  • Adhere to all food safety guidelines

Requirements:

  • Minimum two years experience in a similar position in a butcher shop, restaurant or food service establishment
  • Physically fit, with the ability to lift 50lbs or more on a regular basis
  • Ability to be on their feet for extended periods of time
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to follow and complete recipes correctly
  • Excellent knife skills
